Two years ago, GreenCycle began sponsoring Leafy Lab to reflect our commitment to strengthening the networks that shape Auckland’s green future. Today, Leafy Lab has evolved into a community of professionals across design, planning, ecology, arboriculture, and horticulture who come together to tackle the challenges of modern urban green space.
The conversations sparked at each event – supported by guest speakers from Council, environmental research, plant production, arboriculture, landscape practice, and more – have helped build a shared understanding of what resiliant Auckland green space design could look like. It’s been rewarding to see networks grow and ideas take root.

 

As Leafy Lab continues to grow, we’re proud to be part of a community that shares our belief in greener environments, stronger professional networks, and a more sustainable future for Auckland.

From festive star to garden superstar – drop your Xmas Tree for free at GreenCycle!

So… the tinsel’s packed away, and your Christmas Tree is looking more “crispy brown” than “festive green.” Don’t worry – GreenCycle has you covered. We’ll take one Christmas Tree per household for free at our yard, 141 Hugo Johnston Drive, Penrose.* Instead of sending it to landfill, give it a second life – recycling it into mulch, compost, and garden mix to keep Auckland growing.

*free disposal limited to one real Christmas Tree per household. Additional Xmas trees or greenwaste will be charged at our standard garden waste rates.

How to get rid of your Christmas Tree in Auckland

If you’re wondering what to do with your tree, you’re not alone. Auckland Council has handy guides for both real trees and artificial trees. They even shared five ways to recycle your Christmas tree – and yes, GreenCycle is one of them.

Other local services like Misa Christmas Trees and 0800 Dump Me offer paid removal, but at GreenCycle, we think free is more festive.

What we do (and why we’re different)

At GreenCycle’s yard in Penrose, we don’t just recycle Christmas trees. We recycle all your green waste — even the tough stuff others send to landfill:

  • Flax
  • Palm
  • Bamboo
  • Cabbage trees
  • Logs and branches

Basically, if it grows, we take it. Instead of sending green waste to landfill, we recycle it into beautiful landscape products that go right back into your garden.

Pick it up from our central Penrose yard, or if you’d rather not wrestle with a trailer, we’ll deliver it straight to you.
